Mobile phones, rotating product displays, Alipay app

Cash is increasingly being replaced by virtual forms of payment. These digital transaction services offer convenience and ease of use. Rather than paying a fixed amount with a credit card, QR code payments enable customers to select the exact amount they wish to transfer. To confirm and verify these transactions, vendors often have loudspeakers installed that publicly broadcast the exact received amount as soon as the payment has been received.

The installation „1¥“ (One Yuan) uses two synchronised rotating product displays. Typically found in shop windows, these stands showcase mobile phones with a payment app running. While one phone displays a payment QR code, the other phone's app uses its integrated scan function to constantly search for one of these codes.

Once both phones align, the scanner on one device detects the code of the other, and one yuan is transferred from one phone to the other. This creates an infinite loop that transfers the same amount back and forth.
